Our Story: Built Out of Frustration (and a Bit of Sawdust)
It all started back in 2022 with one Montessori dad (that’s me) on a mission: find a toy shelf that was solid, safe, natural, and didn’t look like it belonged in a dentist’s waiting room.
Sounds simple, right? It wasn’t.
Everything we tried wobbled, swayed, or was made from questionable materials like MDF— you know, the ones that say “wood” but smell like glue. I didn’t want flatpack furniture held together by hope and hex keys. I wanted something better for my child — something real, sturdy, and actually beautiful.
So I rolled up my sleeves, teamed up with my dad, and we built it ourselves.
The result? A shelf that ticked every box — solid timber, curved edges, no visible screws, and absolutely no wobble. It was love at first shelf.
That one piece sparked something bigger. I realised other families and daycares were probably on the same hunt for well-made, safe, natural furniture — so Handcrafted Montessori was born.
Today, everything we make is crafted right here in Perth, WA using quality local materials and a whole lot of care (and coffee). No flat-pack nonsense. No flimsy shortcuts. Just honest, beautiful furniture that’s ready to go straight out of the box.
We’re now working on expanding our range with Montessori-inspired toys and play equipment — all designed with the same no-compromise philosophy: solid, safe, and stylish enough to actually look good in your home.
